The Village People to perform on Valentine's Day to benefit breast cancer awareness

We understand if you need an excuse to see the Village People – we're not so sure that we would be caught broadcasting the fact that we scored tickets to the novelty band's next concert either.

However, everyone who has a ticket to the band's Valentine's Day Concert, which will benefit breast cancer awareness, should feel completely comfortable cluing everyone in on their plans.

Music fans young and old will get the chance to rock out to classic tunes like "Y.M.C.A" and "Macho Man," as the band members perform in their trademark costumes of a Native American, a solder, a cop, a construction worker, a biker and a cowboy.

"This particular charity is very important … My mother passed of cancer, so it's very near and dear to me," lead singer Ray Simpson told the Lantern. He added, "We have invested a lot in it, and we hope that they make some breakthroughs because it's such an ongoing thing for so many families, he continued. "We just hope that it can be eradicated - yesterday, actually."

Some of the proceeds from "Village of Hope" will benefit the Stefany Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, which works to honor caregivers and has raised more than 6.5 million for the cause.
