NFL donates $1 million for breast cancer campaign

Throughout the month of October, you may have seen a few NFL players and coaches sporting pink arm bands, cleats, hats and towels for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The NFL recently went one step further and donated $1 million to the American Cancer Society to find a cure for the deadly disease, according to Fox News.

The NFL used pink equipment throughout the month of October to spread breast cancer awareness to an audience of millions. The league auctioned off game-worn pink jerseys and clothing and other pink merchandise online which collectively raised more than a million dollars.

The league has also used its resources to fund a public awareness campaign called A Crucial Catch, which educates women about the importance of early detection of the illness and undergoing mammograms beginning at age 40.

The NFL's donation will assist over 5,100 communities throughout the United States through the American Cancer Society in both research and helping underprivileged or uninsured patients.

According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 women living in the United States will develop some form of invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
