Men's breast cancer can be more aggressive

It is not as common in men as much as it does women, but it is possible that men can be diagnosed with breast cancer. When men are diagnosed, the disease is more likely to be in the later stages than when it is caught in women, according to Reuters Health.

"It's not surprising that men with breast cancer present with later stages," said Dr. Susan Dent, from the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center in Canada."That's just because the awareness of the fact that breast cancer can occur in men is not as acute. Men aren't as likely to think of it, and health care providers aren't as likely to think of men having breast cancer."

Dent added that men should be aware of the disease and that it is possible that they can be diagnosed with it, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer in men is 100 times less common than breast cancer in women. However, it is possible. One in 1,000 men will be diagnosed with the disease at some point during his lifetime compared to the one in eight women who will be diagnosed.
