Giuliana Rancic diagnosed with breast cancer
Oct 18, 2011
The E! Network personality Giuliana Rancic announced yesterday morning on "The Today Show" that she has been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer, and how she found out is what she feels is important for people to understand, MSNBC reports.
Rancic and her husband Bill, who won the first season of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice," married in 2007, and have had a reality show since 2010 detailing their lives including their struggle with getting pregnant. It wasn't until her third attempt with in vitro fertilization when the doctor told her she needed a mammogram beforehand, which is when the 36-year-old found out that she had the disease, according to the media outlet.
"I still want this baby ... because this baby has saved my life," Rancic said on the Today Show. "I truly feel God was looking out after me … If I had gotten pregnant later down the line, I could have been a lot sicker."
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. It is the second most common form of cancer among women, following only skin cancer.
