"Dance for the Cure" announced for November 1
Mar 10, 2011
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation is preparing to sponsor a "Dance for the Cure" in Southwest Michigan on November 1, in memory of Mary Robinson, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, according to the Kalamazoo Weekly.
The "Dance for the Cure" dinner, charity auction and dancing event will follow the month of October, which is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Mary Robinson, who passed away in 1999, was the mother of two boys named Christopher and Cameron. She is survived by her husband, Tom Robinson.
According to Robinson's sister, Theresa VanderSchie, Mary loved her children and loved to dance. The dance will commemorate Mary but will also serve as a symbol of grassroots support for all people with breast cancer.
The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) organization will celebrate its 27th anniversary in 2011, according to its website. Although October is the designated NBCAM, the organization provides resources for breast cancer survivors and families throughout the year.
“I think everybody is touched by somebody who has had breast cancer," said Debi Howe, the marketing director for Komen's Southwest Michigan Affiliate.
